The Two Sides of Valentine’s Day
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching we need to look at this “holiday” from both sides. The men’s side and the women’s side. The views of Valentine’s Day are very different from one side to the other.
For women this is a holiday that represents love and relationships. People wear red and there are hearts everywhere. It’s a time for women to openly express their love for anyone and everyone. Women are, in general, the more nurturing. They feel things more deeply than men and take them to heart. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate and express those feelings.
To men, on the other hand, Valentine’s Day is just a holiday that was made up through a conspiracy between women, Hallmark Greeting Cards, florists and the diamond industry. They feel as if they are being judged by the present they give. The grander the present the more they must love their girl. The bad news is the grander the gift they give this year the bigger and better it has to be the next year. There is no way to win.
What men don’t know and women won’t tell them is that they are partially right. What this holiday is mostly about is giving them one more chance to remember something. Usually, men have forgotten some important day during the year that their women always remember. Something like the anniversary of their first kiss or the day he first told her he loved her. Don’t kid yourselves boys, women really do remember those dates and expect their men to as well. They were important days to the women.
The best advice for men is to not wait until the last minute. Women can spot flowers from the convenience store or Wal-Mart a mile away. They are better off coming home with nothing than with something they stopped and got quickly on the way home. All this tells your women is that they are not worth your thought or consideration. And those two things are more important to women than anything else you can give them. But if you don’t have anything you had better have a good excuse or plan on sleeping on the couch for a while.
Women really love it when you take time to be with them and know what they want despite the fact that they won’t come right out and tell you what that is. If you have wife that works and takes care of the house and kids one of the best things you can do is send the kids to grandma’s and cook her dinner at home. Just make sure that you don’t forget to clean up the kitchen too. Just a hint.
